TOPPAN Dualsurf™ film wins at 2025 Display Industry Awards; pattern becomes transparent when in use

May 19, 2025

Dualsurf, a transparent decorative film developed by TOPPAN, Inc., Tokyo, Japan, has won the Display Component of the Year Award in the 2025 Display Industry Awards, being recognized by the Society for Information Display (SID) as an innovative technology that expands the functions of displays.

As one of the world’s leading display industry bodies, SID is a highly respected organization composed of leading engineers and corporate researchers from the electronic display sector. SID organizes the annual Display Industry Awards, including the Display Component of the Year Award, which is granted to the best display products and applications introduced to the market each year.

The award-winning Dualsurf is a transparent decorative film. While its exterior appearance employs natural aesthetics such as wood grain or stone designs, it also allows images on a screen to be seen clearly. Visuals cannot be displayed clearly through decorative films produced using conventional printing technologies. Dualsurf, however, makes it possible by leveraging special printing technology for controlling light and has received the Display Component of the Year Award in recognition of its real surface design and performance in enabling vivid display of images.

LCDs and LED displays are used widely in stores, public spaces, household appliances and various other devices. In interior spaces, however, the black screens of displays can be imposing when not in use and the rectangular screen shape also limits the possibilities for product design. This has prompted interest in smart display systems that blend seamlessly into interiors while also allowing visual media to be displayed clearly. In response, TOPPAN has developed Dualsurf film, employing a special printing technology to enable both clear visuals and real display surface decoration with natural aesthetics, delivering a smart display system that is harmonized with spaces and allows for a high degree of freedom in design.

About Dualsurf
Dualsurf is a decorative sheet that uses transparent decoration technology developed by evolving techniques for rendering wood grain and other designs in TOPPAN’s décor materials business. Dualsurf film enables a screen to be concealed but also to display content in the conventional way.
