Grafotronic unveils the X-1: Supersonic die-cutting

September 17, 2025

Press release submitted on behalf of Grafotronic.

Grafotronic, Landkrona, Sweden, a global leader in modular converting technology, announced the launch of its groundbreaking X-1 cutting unit, the fastest semi-rotary, single anvil die-cutting solution ever released.

The X-1 introduces what Grafotronic calls “Supersonic Die-Cutting”, reaching a record-breaking 200 meters per minute. This milestone has only been possible in the past with dual anvil systems—known for their higher speeds but also for producing large amounts of waste and requiring complex setup.

With the X-1, converters finally get dual-anvil speed with all the benefits of a single anvil design:

  • Less Waste: Reduced material loss and improved sustainability.
  • Simplified Operation: Faster setup and easier handling.
  • Higher Productivity: Supersonic speeds without added complexity.

The name X-1 pays tribute to the Bell X-1, the world’s first supersonic aircraft, which broke speed barriers and redefined aviation history. Similarly, Grafotronic’s X-1 is breaking new ground in die-cutting, pushing past limitations that have defined the industry for decades.

“With the X-1, Grafotronic is rewriting the rules of semi-rotary die-cutting. Supersonic speeds are now possible without compromise. For the first time, converters can achieve 200 m/min with a single anvil — a breakthrough that will transform productivity,” said Morten Toksværd, business development director, Grafotronic AB.

The X-1 is fully compatible with Grafotronic’s modular platform, giving customers the flexibility to integrate the unit into both existing and future production lines.
