European packaging-converting giant Coveris says it will made an additional US$1.33 million investment at its Linerless Labeling Centre of Excellence in Spalding, UK, reinforcing its position as one of the world’s largest producers of linerless labels.
Part of an investment program to advance its lintless capabilities, which began in late 2022, the latest expenditure brings the total investment at the UK site to US$3.33 million.
Home to the UK’s only dedicated linerless-label manufacturing facility, Coveris Spalding manufactures over one billion labels annually for the UK and European FMCG sectors. This latest investment in a new ten-color MPS EF 580 flexographic press, which became operational in June 2025, expands the site’s capacity to meet rising UK demand and supports strategic growth into new wide-web markets such as RTE meals and food-on-the-go.
Designed to print on both paper and filmic substrates, the new press enables Coveris to offer sustainable labelling solutions aligned with its “No Waste” vision. The advanced MPS technology features E-Sleeve print capabilities for enhanced accuracy, reduced waste and faster setup times. Additionally, the press incorporates 100% web inspection for improved quality and consistency, as well as cold-foil embellishment, enabling decorative, high-impact finishes across Coveris’ full range of linerless formats.
Compatible with core applications including Slidewrap™, c-wrap, envelope, punnet labels and contour-fitted formats for Skinpack solutions, the new press supports increased output while maintaining exceptional print quality and technical performance.
Nigel Hewitt, Coveris BU Paper Sales Director, says, “This latest investment represents another key milestone in our journey to deliver world-class linerless solutions from our Linerless Centre of Excellence. As demand continues to grow across traditional applications and newer categories like RTE meals, our expanded capacity and technical capability ensure we remain the partner of choice for sustainable labeling innovation.”
